Text Bullying

I haven’t seen this startling stat:

“Children’s charity NCH surveyed 770 youngsters and found 14% of 11-to-19-year-olds had been threatened or harassed using text messages.” Found on Yiibu . (Stat source here.)

Worse, a more recent stat from Australia from a much larger study group, surveyed 13,000 girls and found that 42 per cent had been harassed, intimidated or humiliated while online or through mobile phone text messaging.

Text Someone is a new UK program aimed at helping the victims of physical bullying. A phone number is promoted in UK schools using posters and brochures, and the campaign extends to media promotion. A card with the number is also given to each child. If they’ve been physically attacked, they SMS.  Demo here.    Learned from here.

A similar program called ChildText has been launched in Australia.
