Heads up to mass communication educators and development communication practitioners…
Just published: A Reader on ICT Planning for Development
The second edition of the Reader on Information and Communication Technology Planning for Development has been published by the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC) and the National Commission of the Philippines for UNESCO with support from Intel and Microsoft.
This is the revised edition of the book published in 1998.
In his Foreword, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information Abdul Waheed Khan notes that the book “focuses on the application of ICT in various human development endeavors – education, health, livelihood, environment, and governance.”
The Reader includes the following chapters:
* ICT planning for development;
* Socio-cultural and ethical aspects of ICT;
* Political and legal aspects of ICT;
* ICT in education;
* E-governance; and
* ICT in journalism.
Right now, unfortunately, the only avenue they provide to purchase the publication is by calling the Philippines. I’m trying to find a way to order electronically, and if I have success, I’ll update that info here. The book costs 500 Philippine pesos – about 11 US dollars; about 5.30 UK Sterling.
